The 62nd SA National Archery Championships got off to a brisk start today (official practice & registration) with archers as far afield as the UK and Namibia participating. The morning started off wet and gusty in Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape, but by mid-day warmed up with slight gusts of wind. The tournament is an important event, with some 40 recurve archers being evaluated by the SANAA Olympic Commission as possible talent for the 2016 Rio Olympics. It will also be the first time that trophies donated by Coenrad Geldenhuys (SB-M) and Heather Malloroy (RC) will be presented at the prize-giving. Equipment inspection was about half way by mid-day, with judges reporting few abnormalities which were quickly corrected. The championships is the selection competition for the University Games (Spain), Para-Archery Championships (UK) and the 3rd leg of the Archery World Cup (USA). It will also determine the national champions in the various categories. Photographs of the event can be viewed in the gallery and daily posts will be available on the Nationals 2012 home page.
